Excursion Lake of Massaciuccoli
Lake Massaciuccoli is a big body of water located in the hinterland of Viareggio, so easily to reach both by car and bike. In spring and summer months the lake, the water channels and the green area surrounding it are a great alternative to the beach: an ideal destination to relax and have fun with the whole family.
The lake is included in the territory of Natural Park of Migliarino, San Rossore and Massaciuccoli, a proper open air museum protected by WWF and LIPU. The lake water and the surroundings are populated by several migratory and resident birds among which: the marsh harrier, the heron, the cormorant, the snipe. There are also many species of delicate aquatic plants.
Among the favorite activities of the park visitors is birdwatching. In the LIPU Oasis area have been realized two huts for observation and numerous catwalks on stilts that allow to advance on the lake even for several meters in a safe way.
On the water of Massaciuccoli is possible to sail and canoeing. Instead, staying on the mainland the best way to discover and appreciate the most suggestive spots of the lake is through a bike excursion along the bike path running all around its perimeter. The track is mostly flat and not tiring so it’s great for adults and childrens.
