t takes place along the well known “Passeggiata”, the main avenue on the seaside, really close to the Hotel Vittoria. The Carnival it’s a mixture of local parties inside the small streets all around the port area and up to the main centre of Viareggio, the “Marco Polo” neighborhood. The hearth of the Carnival is the big parade on the “Passeggiata” with its wonderful and giant floats, made in papier-mâché: the art of the floats masters is really ancient and famous all over the world. The compositions up on the floats are usually representing themes from nature, fairy tales, actuality or mockery. The city is totally transformed by the presence of hundreds of masks, groups, bands and fireworks in a joyful show both for adults and for children. The importance of this event pushed the city administration to build a “City of Carnival”, the “Cittadella”, where the floats are created, but also hosting a lot of other events and shows in a dedicated arena. |
