Contemporary Art Gallery of Viareggio

In the heart of Viareggio, a short distance from the promenade by the sea and the open air market, there is a building entirely dedicated to contemporary art: GAMC.

The gallery is one of the most interesting museum of its kind in Italy because it host permanently circa 3.000 works of art among sculptures, paintings and installations.

This enormous collection come from private donations and acquisitions of the Municipality of Viareggio. The museum space, inside the nineteenth century Palazzo delle Muse, is a true showcase about the art of XX century, with more than 700 artists.

One of the most admire collection is the one of Pieraccini that collect artists like Gaugin, Picasso, Mirò, Chagall, Dubuffet. The Italian artists at the GAMC are instead De Chirico, Casorati, Mastroianni, Fattori and many others. Also in the museum there is the biggest collection of works of art of the artist Lorenzo Viani, originally from Viareggio: at least 102 pieces of graphic and sculptor art.

This is the way the city pay homage to one of its most talented citizen, still not known by the public.
