Montecarlo

Montecarlo

Montecarlo’s town is the right place if you love nature and countryside. (by car from Viareggio, highway A11 towards Firenze, exit Altopascio; then along Via Romana; right detour for Montecarlo) It’s an ancient town with Medieval origins, quite important in past centuries because it was on the road connecting Lucca with Pisa and Florence, that were fighting each other in order to conquer all the lands belonging to the nowadays Region of Tuscany. Montecarlo is a fascinating place with great examples of military architecture; it was initially linked to a famous feminine character of Italian history, Countess Matilde di Canossa. After a stroll inside the town, a visit inside the church of Sant’Andrea and pictures of the landscape, you can’t miss a stop for wine tasting inside one of the many Cellars available in the area, famous for its vineyards. The Montecarlo DOC white and red (DOC is a high quality Italian mark) is obtained by different grapes like Sauvignon, Semillon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Roussanne, Syrah, Pinot white and gray, all together with Trebbiano.
