Pietrasanta

Pietrasanta

It’s an ancient town with Medieval origins, really close to Viareggio. It’s name is deriving from the one of its founder, Guiscardo from Pietrasanta, who decided to build a city down the Fortress of Sala. Pietrasanta is located on the borderline between two different regions, Toscana and Liguria, and that’s why here a lot of wars took place during the past centuries. Inside the town it’s possible to visit the churches of San Martino and Sant’Abate. Along the small streets you can decide to have shopping or to stop at the craftsmen’s workshop, in order to have a look at marble curving live, or you can choose among the different art galleries, famous all over the world, also thanks to international artists like Fernando Botero and Igor Mitoraj, who decided to spend their life in Pietrasanta.
