Museums of Lucca

Lucca is a multifaceted city that offers tourists a wide variety of art, history, science and music proposals of the territory and the people that have made it famous in the world.

The vaarious museums of Lucca reflect perfectly this artistic and cultural richness. They are at the center of the city’s tourist scene thanks to the frequent organization of festivals and thematic events.

For example, the famous Lucca Comics & Games has been organized for over 20 years in collaboration with the prestigious Comics Museum.

Two of the most important museums in the city of Lucca are two national museums: the Palazzo Mansi Pinacoteca and the Villa Guinigi Museum.

The first one is set in a typical 17th-century Lucca residence, still features some original Baroque décor. There are exhibited some works of art from Italian school and the rustic weaving workshop titled to Maria Niemack.

The Villa Guinigi Museum, instead, contains much of Lucca’s history, from the Etruscans to the 1700s. The same residence where it is set is one of the oldest in the city, though not well known to the general public. In addition to these, Lucca also houses a contemporary art museum, the birthplace of composer Giacomo Puccini, a liberation museum, a museum of natural sciences.
