Regional Park of the Apuan Alps

Regional Park of Apuan Alps

From the beaches of Versilia, keeping the sea behind, you can admire the high peaks of the Regional Park of the Apuan Alps. The “Marble Mountains” have been the history of this area since Roman times and in the Renaissance it is here that Michelangelo went to personally choose the precious blocks to be transformed into works of art.

The park extends for about 20,000 hectares in the heart of the Garfagnana, coming to include also part of the Versilia region. Given the particular richness of natural environments and scenery, the park is ideal for hiking, trekking, horseback riding and mountain biking.

The trails that cross the park long and wide allow you to come into contact with the local nature and the animals that are there.

The Apuan Alps are mountains of great suggestion with very harsh but pleasant views to explore. Numerous are for example the caves that open within the mountains, the most famous and visited are the Wind Cave and the Corchia Underground.

Not to be missed are even the Botanical Garden Pietro Pellegrini, where the typical floral species of the Apuan karstic mountains are preserved, and the Oasi Lupi di Campocatino, where several bird specimens live, therefore ideal for birdwatching.
